There are two main aspects to hairstyles. Firstly it’s about your looks and secondly it’s about how it feels because hair is, unlike clothes, a part of your body. Now most people focus on the first one. They believe that how you look is the only thing worth considering in hair styling. But how your hair feels is also not to be underestimated.
Different hairstyles can feel very unique and hard to describe to somebody who’s never worn them. For example, wearing long hair that brushes against your skin is such a wonderful sensation in itself, no matter how it looks. Feeling the weight of your hair as you turn your head is also something that most long haired people enjoy. They feel compelled to swing their long hair around at every opportunity.
Short hair offers no such feeling but it has other sensations that long hair can’t give you. Brushing your hand over short hair is often much softer to the touch than long hair. Very short hair feels like soft velvet. And if you’ve ever dared to have super short hair or a bob with a buzzed nape then you’ll know that someone stroking across your shorn nape can feel absolutely awesome. Having the haircut with clippers also feels great in itself. It’s no coincidence that so many women are hooked on this kind of bob. Why do you think men love to get their entire hair buzzed so much?
So, next time you think about what hairstyle to get, you might also ask yourself how you want it to feel. After all, it’s your body and that makes physical sensation perhaps even more important than looks.
